Liberal Arts Abroad: U.S. Higher Education & The New Global Citizen

Research in Rhetoric

My next book-length project examines how U.S. liberal arts-style education is implemented in China, Africa, Europe, and the Middle East.

Drawing on public announcements from universities, interviews with teachers, and public deliberations, this project analyzes the rhetorical construction of a new “global citizen” and how a Western liberal arts tradition is culturally embedded—and also transformed—into other cultures via the modern university.
